Before & After
Gene
Believe that life is worth living and your belief will become a fact...
TAF’s 3.5lb, 16-18 year old toothless Gene never gave up at the pound and his perseverance not only won us over but also landed him a loving home with a new mom that adores him.
Gene beat the odds and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
Jules
I am no longer homeless... I have a new mom.
After spending 3 long months at the pound, TAF brought Jules into our program and started getting her ready to find her forever home.
We are happy to announce that Jules is sleeping in her very own bed tonight and is over the moon for her new mom... it was truly love at first sight for this pair and a match made in heaven.
Puppy Filly
On June 9th, TAF came across Filly at Chicago Animal Care and Control. It was the 2nd day after she came into the facility and her cage card read, ”HIT BY CAR...BROKEN REAR LEFT LEG AND RIBS”.
Noticing that she had not received any medical care at CACC, we took Filly with us so that she could get the emergency medical attention that she needed.
It took two orthopedic surgeries to repair Filly’s broken leg but with some physical therapy, she has been able to make a full recovery. The best news yet… FILLY HAS JUST FOUND HER FOREVER HOME!
Filly has left the city for a nice quiet suburb with a big fenced in back yard and a family that is head over heals for her. She even has a new brother to call her own.
Filly is one of the many dogs that TAF has asked for financial assistance from our followers on facebook and those that fell in love with Filly truly came through for her. Filly owes her second lease on life to all of you… because of you, she can walk with no pain.
We are so happy that our proud Filly has found the family that completes her and fills her heart with love.
Joker
LOOK WHO FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME... JOKER!!!
TAF pulled this BIG boy from CACC a few weeks ago and boy did he hit the jackpot... his new mom ADORES him and has let us know that Joker is in love with her cats.
The smiles on this dynamic duos faces says it all... true bliss!
Molly
I think that it is pretty safe to say who Molly's new BFF is going to be!
After spending 3 months at the pound and some much needed TLC with TAF's therapy dogs and time at the vet, we are happy to announce that Molly has found her FOREVER HOME!!!
Molly is now part of one big happy family!
Greta
On October 23rd, TAF introduced you to a very lucky girl that we had pulled from an open access shelter that day. Her name was Greta and she was more than ready to leave the shelter after her owners had left her there several weeks prior.
As it turned out, Greta’s medical condition was worse than we had originally thought. Besides needing a dental with extractions, it turned out that Greta was heartworm positive. After two months of heartworm treatment and medical observation… we are so happy to announce that Greta has made a full recovery and has found her perfect forever home!
I guess it took Greta finding her forever home to find that smile that she lost so long ago!
Claus
Look who found a home just in time for Christmas... Claus!!!
With a name like Claus, it is only fitting that our special pup found his way under a Christmas tree.
Happy
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PHOTO!!!
TAF found Happy at a local open access shelter after her owners gave her up.
As of tonight, this scared and abandoned pup is in the loving arms of her new mom... she will never know loneliness again.
Hollis
TAF HAS A VERY HAPPY ENDING THAT IS QUITE FRANKLY A BIT OF A MIRACLE…
Do you remember Hollis the big yellow lab that we just pulled from an open access shelter? Well, as it turns out, this big boy was not homeless at all.
Harley's journey had been a tricky one as he was picked up in a suburb of Chicago, but taken to another town's animal control where he waited for 14 days. In this time frame, a letter was supposed to have been sent to the address from Hollis’s microchip but it was never received. After a stint at this animal control, Hollis was then transferred to yet another open access facility, which is where TAF found him last week.
TAF pulled Hollis after noticing a large hematoma on one of his terribly infected ears. Once brought to the vet, Hollis had his ears treated, was neutered, and received all of his vaccinations.
When Hollis was back in our care, we decided to pursue his microchip and see if we could find his family. The phone number listed had been disconnected but there was also an address. A friend of TAF went to the address and talked to the people who live there. It turns out that the dog named Harely had escaped from their backyard about 3 weeks earlier after one of the kids let him into the yard. They had visited Chicago Animal Care and Control almost daily in hopes that someone had turned in their beloved pup to the shelter, but they never found Harley. They were resigned to the fact that someone had likely taken him into their home and they would never see him again.
Well, yesterday this family came to get their pup...to say they were excited is an understatement. The kids could barely contain themselves as I went over all the medical paperwork we had to give them. We also had a new name tag made for Harley and gave them a new leash and collar. We also had updated the microchip information for them.
When I let Harley run out into the lobby, he whimpered with happiness as he fell into his dads lap, licking the kids faces and pawing at them. He was so so happy to see them, and the kids were in tears. It was truly a beautiful thing.
This is just another example of never giving up on your beloved pet. If you lose them, find out where every open access shelter is in your area and post flyers etc. If your pet (both cat and dog) is not microchipped, do so ASAP. If they are already microchipped, make sure that you contact the microchip company and confirm that your address and phone number is up to date. Even though MANY rescues, both small and large, adopt out animals that are already microchipped… this does not mean that they have provided any of the adoptor’s information to the microchip company. It is ultimately the adoptive owners responsibility to do this.
If you live in Illinois, Lost Dogs Illinois has a facebook page that allows you to post lost and found dogs. They also provide options for flyers that you can use. Another option is to look for your lost dog or cat on Craig’s List.
If anybody else has suggestions of where people can look for their lost pets, please feel free to write them in the comment section of this post. You never know… it just may save a life.
Wren
GREAT NEWS... TAF's Wren has found her forever home just in time for Christmas!
Back in early November, TAF came across 9-month-old Wren at an open access shelter after her owners gave her up for being too big. After getting her spayed, etc., TAF's therapy dog, Miller, started working with her and teaching her the ropes. Pretty soon, Wren was once again a confident, happy and playful puppy.
Wren's new family have already signed her up for weekly training classes and the kids are all taking an active role in making sure that their new best friend will continue to be a perfect role model for the breed.
In honor of this loving family's senior German Shepherd "Zuzu" that passed not too long ago, Wren has been re-named "Bailey" from "It's a Wonderful Life", too.
For this whole family… what a wonderful life it will be!
