Princess

After over a month of being ill and then coming down with the Canine Influenza Virus, Princess has made a full recovery... in addition to this, our pint size girl has found her forever home!

Princess went from living in a depressed area of Chicago to a house on a lake where she will be spoiled by her new mom and dad... what a great second chance at a new life!

Grady

WONDERFUL NEWS… TAF’S SENIOR GRADY HAS MADE A FULL RECOVERY AND HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!

TAF came across Grady at a local open access shelter after he was brought in as a stray. When we saw him at the shelter, he was hiding in the back of his cage in fear. We could barely get him to make eye contact with us.

Once out of the shelter, Grady perked up and really started to thrive until he came down with the Canine Influenza Virus. This ultimately led to pneumonia and Grady was hospitalized for weeks. It was touch and go for bit but with excellent vet care Grady made a full recovery.

When Grady’s future mom, Jennifer, came across Grady's photo on the TAF Facebook page, she knew he was the dog for her family! In the last 5 years, Jennifer had lost her husband, her two dogs and her cat. It had been a rough time, but after adopting two more cats, she felt her home needed another great dog.

To say Grady was happy to meet Jennifer and her two kids is an understatement...he was bounding around from person to person with a huge smile on his face. He couldn't wait to jump in their car and begin life with his new, amazing family. Jennifer has updated us to say that they are calling him Mr. O'Grady and that he LOVES his new yard, deck and life in general.

From the streets of Chicago to a beautiful home in a quiet suburban neighborhood, Mr. O’Grady will be living out his golden years in peace and tranquility… his future is so, so bright with his new loving family by his side!

Waters

FROM THE BRINK OF DEATH… A TRUE SURVIVOR HAS PREVAILED

On February 6th, TAF received a call about an abused dog that was near death and needed emergency medical care.

Waters was suffering from frostbite, starvation, severe dehydration, pressure sores on his hips, pancreatitis, infestation of parasites, anemia, fever, advanced muscle atrophy and a secondary skin infection.

During Waters’ six weeks of hospitalization, it was touch and go at times and Waters remained on supportive care receiving IV fluids, pain medication and antibiotics. As Waters’ body slowly began to heal, the toll that the subzero temperatures had on his frail body became apparent. At first the lower section of Waters’ ear broke off and after a few weeks he needed to have his tail amputated. In the end, Waters gained 20 pounds and made a full recovery.

After much love and affection from TAF’s Medical & Rescue Director and the staff at Unleashed Pups and Animal Ark and HEAL Veterinary Clinics, Waters transformed into a well rounded wonderful, loving, and trusting dog.

After many applications from loving families, TAF chose the one that we thought would be the perfect fit for Waters.

The family’s last dog was special needs and recently passed away. They are long time TAF followers and felt a connection to Waters. With twin 3-year-old boys, they wanted a dog that could integrate into their family and enjoy all the fun things that happen on a daily basis. Waters was in love with them from the first minute, and a handful of treats later, there was no doubt he was going to be their new best buddy.

From Waters new dad: "I wanted to let you know how appreciative we are for the opportunity to adopt Waters. He hasn't left my side and gets so excited to see the boys. He is such a gentle, caring and loving dog, it's truly a shame that he had to go through what he did. He's safe now and there will be nothing but love, adventure and treats in his future.”

Here’s to second chances Waters… may you live happily ever after!

(Waters’ owner was never prosecuted.)

Hippo

The Trio Animal Foundation came across Hippo at an open access shelter when she was just 12 weeks old. Her ears had been cut off and she had a severely neglected case of demodectic mange.

Along with this, Hippo had a secondary skin infection, an upper respiratory infection and a fungal infection that was causing further complications on her head, ears and paws.

After months of antibiotics, medicated dips, fungal and pain medications, Hippo has made a full recovery and it is time for her to move on and start her new life.

I have had the privilege of fostering many medically challenged dogs in the past but none quite like Hippo. This beefy girl lived up to her name and kept my household on its toes. This ball of energy never let her medical condition slow her down as she ran through my apartment grunting like a warthog and knocking everything down in her path.

TAF’s Antler, Miller and Geiger entertained her when it was too cold for her to play outside and snuggled with her when she needed some extra TLC. They truly took care of her and I was just the human who drove Hippo to her doctor appointments and supplied the treats.

Once recovered, Hippo was adopted by one of the vet tech's who cared for her during her long, long recovery.  Hippo has been part of the TAF family, as well as her facebook family, and this will allow all of us to continue to watch her grow and flourish. Hippo’s progress and adventures will continue to be posted on TAF’s facebook page and she will be part of our lives for years to come. It is a win win for all and we couldn’t be happier!

Hudson

Set on fire and used as a bait dog as a young puppy, Hudson received months of care for his burns, bite wounds, skin infections and mange treatment. He was hospitalized for weeks, cared for daily by his medical team. He made a full recovery and was adopted into a wonderful home. Since this time, Hudson has become a loyal member of TAF's dog rehabilitation team and has gone on to help other dogs in need... he is truly paying it forward.

Hazel Grace

Hazel Grace as started on fire and was heart worm positive. After being hospitalized for 7 weeks and then given a skin graft, Hazel Grace was able to continue her recovery in a foster home. To this day, her fur has not grown back.

Hazel Grace was adopted by Sue, the President of TAF, and is in training to be one of our Canine Rehabilitation Dogs.

Petri

TAF came across an emaciated, neglected and abused min pin at a local open access shelter.

After weeks and weeks of constant attention and medical care, Petri made a full recovery and found his forever home!

Zelda

TAF came across a very sick pug on a trip to the local open access shelter. Knowing how quickly, and how seriously ill brachycephalic dogs can get, we immediately took her to our vet. Zelda was hospitalized for two weeks on IV fluids, antibiotics and pain meds.

Once recovered, Zelda was adopted into a wonderful loving home!

Lemmy

TAF has been with Lemmy through the highs and lows ever since he came into our care 7 weeks ago! This starved, mite infested pup came from nothing and is now living the good life. We couldn't have asked for a happier ending! A big thanks to Project Rescue Chicago for finding Lemmy his forever home and to Nichole from Animal Care Center of Chicago for looking out for him. As always, we are extremely thankful to everybody that donated towards Lemmy's medical care.

Darcy

Meet Darcy! TAF has been sponsoring Darcy for quite some time. When Darcy came into our program, she was suffering from mange and was just transferred out of an open access shelter. TAF covered the cost of all of her treatments as well as her spay, vaccinations, microchip and medications.

Darcy recovered and was adopted into a loving home!
