Before & After
Diva
We have great news... Diva has found her forever home! After Diva's owners gave her up last week to an open access shelter, TAF stepped in to help out. With the help of a foster home and our vet, we were able to have her fully vaccinated and microchipped right away. This extra help made it possible for Diva to go right into a loving forever home over the weekend. A big thank you to everybody that stepped in to help out last minute... Diva says thank you too!
Nessel
WONDERFUL NEWS… NESSEL HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!!!
When TAF met Nessel at an open access shelter, he was terribly matted and in desperate need of dental surgery.
Kay, a groomer Zulu Dog + Cat Boutique, donated her time and spent almost 2 hours working on Nessel. Because we were able to get him groomed so fast, Nessel was able to go in for surgery to be neutered and have a dental right away.
One of the coolest things about Nessel’s adoption is that he found his forever home with a TAF alumnus formerly known as Duke! Duke was just adopted a few months ago after he was found as a stray living in a field. It would take weeks before Duke was finally caught and given medical attention that he needed.
A big thank you to Nessel’s new mom who has opened her loving arms and home to two homeless dogs that were looking for their happily ever after. You are truly the best!
Micky
We have some wonderful news… our little Micky has found his forever home!
In April, TAF came across an 8 year old scared Chihuahua quivering in his cage at an open access shelter. Micky’s family had just given him up because they were moving… they were all that he had ever known since he was 14 weeks old. It was truly heartbreaking to see and we just couldn’t leave him behind.
We knew that Micky had some obvious neglect issues, just by looking at the length of his nails and color of his teeth. Upon a more thorough vet exam, it was discovered that Micky needed to have 11 teeth pulled and that he had a nasty infection in his mouth that left his glands swollen. He was in pain and his eyes were constantly tearing up.
Once Micky went in for surgery, all of his medical conditions started to clear up and his mood drastically changed. Once he was no longer in pain and found comfort in a foster home, Micky started to come to life again. He played with the TAF therapy dogs and found a best friend in Hazel Grace. They even had matching tennis outfits!
When the time was right for Micky to move on, the most amazing forever home was waiting for him… a home with 3 other “littles” and a mom that already adored! One of his new siblings is even a TAF alumnus!
How incredible is it that Micky’s new mom has opened up her home to love and care for senior pups that have been left behind? Like all of our adopters, Micky’s new mom is a class act with a heart of gold!
Carney
Great news... Carney has been adopted!
If you are not familiar with Carney's story, he was found as a stray and brought to the police department. Since Carney was microchipped, his owner was contacted but was not interested in getting him back.
Carney was in terrible need of grooming and some lovely people that were looking after him brought him to The Dog House of LC&L where he was groomed free of charge.
TAF was contacted about Carney and asked if we could get him the medical attention that he needed and take him into our adoption program. TAF agreed and once Carney was 100% healthy we worked on some of his behavioral quirks. Before long, Carney was the perfect gentleman.
Carney (in his new mom's lap) is so lucky to now have 2 new brothers and a mom and dad who love him. Carney's new parents have always adopted and since they just moved from a condo to a single family home, they wanted to help another homeless dog in need. Carney's new mom works from home and is looking forward to giving him the extra attention that he has been missing. This family loves their dogs and they love them back... we think that Carney's new brother is pretty happy to welcome him to the family! Just look at that smile!
Chip
WE HAVE SOME GREAT NEWS… TAF’S PUPPY CHIP HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!
After being hospitalized for quite some time receiving treatment for mange, secondary skin infections and open lesions on the back of his neck/head, Chip has finally made a full recovery and is doing just great!
TAF was thrilled when one of our recent adopters stepped up and said that she would like to welcome Chip into her home. Knowing that her pup Tillie would be a perfect role model for a puppy, Chip’s new mom came down for an introduction and it was love at first sight! Both Tillie and Chip got along so well and Tillie even positively corrected Chip when needed. We have no doubt that Tillie will make a great teacher and show Chip the ropes.
People like Chip’s new mom are pretty amazing… with such an open heart and open arms, she has welcomed two needy homeless dogs into her home. Such an act of kindness is truly inspirational and we home that it motivates others to do the same! What a wonderful woman!
Another big thank you goes out to everybody that helped to sponsor Chip’s medical care. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Gambit
WONDERFUL NEWS... GAMBIT HAS FOUND HIS NEW HOME!
After being returned by his previous owners to TAF because of a sick child, Gambit really started to become depressed. Gambit was born to TAF's therapy dog Antler and even she couldn't cheer him up. He missed his family and we tried everything that we could to keep him preoccupied and happy.
Well, I guess that it just took Gambit knowing that he had a new family to love him to bring his beautiful smile back. Upon meeting his new mom and dad, Gambit kissed both of them and was just plain thrilled. Gambit was loved from the day he was born... first by Antler, then TAF, his first family and now his forever family. Just like his mom Antler, he was destined for a long happy life.

Yukon
14 YEAR OLD YUKON HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!
It was little over a month that our senior boy Yukon was rescued living outside in an extremely dangerous area on the south side of Chicago.
Yukon was in a great deal of pain if you touched his tail, leg and paw and his injuries appeared to have originated from some sort of blunt force trauma. His paw was in such bad shape that if you applied pressure, blood and pus would come out from between his pads. He was miserable and needed emergency medical care.
X-rays would go on to show that Yukon’s tail was broken but his leg was not. With hospitalization and strict crate rest, Yukon’s injuries were on the mend and he was on his way to recovery.
Well, after a little over a month in our care, we are so happy to announce that Yukon has found the perfect forever home to live out his twilight years.
He now lives in a wonderful suburb of Chicago with his brother Gibson, his parents and 4 college-age and teenage kids! Once at his new home, Yukon ran around his new big backyard and rolled in snow with a big smile on his face. This very special pup’s life will never be the same again… no more gunfire, no more loneliness no pain. He will live the rest of his days in a safe neighborhood with a family that loves him… the best was truly saved for last!
(Photo on the top left is from the night that he was saved.)
Royal
Last August, Royal was left behind in his home after his family was evicted. It would take some time before neighbors realized that he was fending for himself and called for help.
It was then that TAF took Royal into our program and provided him medical care for a secondary skin infection, etc.
When Royal was neutered, he had a post-operative complication from his pain medication that led to hematuria. This meant that Royal was urinating blood. Once we ruled out clotting disorders, Royal was started on antibiotics and alternative pain medications. It took awhile to get his system back on track but he made a full recovery.
Well, we are so happy to announce that after rehabilitation and some really good medical care, Royal has found his new forever home!
Royal’s new dad is no stranger to heartache, either. He just suffered the loss of his beloved dog and didn’t even know if he could ever open his heart to another dog, again.
As fate would have it, Royal happened to be going on a walk when his future dad saw him from afar. Even though he did not meet Royal that day, he never forgot about him. Later phone calls would lead to their introduction and the rest is history… two hearts mended through adoption.
Sochill
Sochill has not only found a forever home but he is helping his new brother to walk, again!
TAF came across Sochill at an open access shelter about a month ago... he was scared and required medical attention.
Once ready for adoption, many wonderful applications came in for Sochill. One application, in particular, caught our eye as it was a win win for all involved.
Sochill's future brother had just had his second back surgery and, even with physical therapy, had lost his motivation to walk on his own. Knowing that he loved other dogs, his mom and dad sought out another little dog to encourage him and give him a reason to move around.
When the family came to meet Sochill, he did not let anybody down. He went right over to his new brother and sat right next to him. After Sochill gave his brother a nudge, they both started to walk around together. In that moment, Sochill had already started to pay it forward. He not only won over the hearts of his new mom and dad but he let his new brother know that there was a big world out there that they could see together... sometimes a little nudge is all the encouragement that you need.
